You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here...

Since it's been over a month, a few people have asked me about my lack of recent posts, so I felt the need to clarify.

Yes, I'm done.

There have been times in my life when I’ve kept a journal for recording my thoughts, events, experiences, whatever. Then there have been periods where I don’t do any of that. The last few months have been so busy, with work as well as the responsibilities of the editing gig, that I’ve been hard pressed to find time to even e-mail and keep up with friends, and my blog posts have felt forced and awkward. It’s definitely time to let it go.

I won’t say I’m done with blogging for good, because chances are that I’ll eventually start doing it again sometime. Whether that’s a month, six months, a year, or three years from now, I don’t know.

I’ll leave this up, because the whole point of having something online is to let others read it, and I don’t really understand why I’d take it down anyway. Not one for long goodbyes, I've disabled comments.

Thanks for comin' out.

Drafting

I actually write a lot more posts than is apparent on this blog. I just don't finish them all -- at least not to enough of a degree to want to publish them. In fact, the number of drafts I have is looking more and more like it's going to outnumber the published posts in the not-too-distant future.

So this being a busy week, I haven't had much time to write anything new. I did however publish a new, er... well, old post, from Aug.5th, if anyone wants to read some mindless drivel. Hope to have a new post up in the next couple of days, but we'll see.

tabula rasa

Well, that didn't really amount to much, did it? Time to start fresh...

Weblog

I've started a weblog and I'm a bit uneasy about the whole thing. How does one approach "blogging"? It's an online diary, a journal, a place to write down my thoughts. But unlike a common bound paper book, this is out there for all to see.

I've read blogs that speak frankly and even with inappropriate abandon about the people who pass through the blogger's life, and they seem comfortable with the world knowing all intimate details of their life. Granted, some of these are so intimate that I question the level of creative liberty that went into them. They end up reading like episodes of Sex and the City, or a daytime soap. I'm impressed that these writers can be so open about their lives, and yet it seems to me as if they are posting as though they need public approval for all the intimate details in their lives. Or maybe they view personal discretion as a weakness. I don't know.

Other writers appear very focused on a single facet of their life, be it their zeal for boating, an unnatural love for Captain James T. Kirk, or simply what their dog's been up to this week. I also admire these people -- specifically their level of passion and focus, and yet with few or no references to the other events in their life, I also can't help but wonder what else is going on in their lives.

I hope that I can go forth writing while balancing specific interests, like my work, sculpture, and running, with general issues surrounding my relationships. Hopefully I can do this without really ticking anyone off. I guess I'll just see what I'm comfortable with and let the writing play out for itself.

Welcome to my blog.
